What this team is

There is no side of the ball to lean on here. That is the headline. The face of it is Tony Pollard (HB, 85).

Reality check: the No. 1 overall pick is still waiting for his first multi-touchdown game this season. Week 7 brought 181 yards, no touchdowns and a pick in a 27-24 loss to Cleveland, and Tennessee is 1-6. The 73 overall is not the insult; the record is.

Offense

Tony Pollard (HB, 85) is the headliner. 93 acceleration — zero to full speed in a blink — the first three steps are already gone; 92 carrying — the ball simply does not come out. He is close to the only non-problem this offense has.

A bottom-four offense, where most weeks the most exciting play is a really good punt. The catch: the quarterback. Cam Ward (73) is one of the lowest-rated starters in the league, and everything fun on this offense is downstream of that problem. And the line is the fire alarm: a bottom-four unit by the ratings (74.8 average). Every long-developing concept is a negotiation with it.

Defense

Amani Hooker (SS, 81) sets the terms. The tragedy is arithmetic: one of him, ten other spots, and the ten win.

Zoom out and it gets grim: a bottom-four defense by the ratings. Quarterbacks circle this one in pen.

Special teams

Joey Slye (75) kicks — 98 leg, 83 accuracy. Tommy Townsend (78) punts — 95 leg, 83 accuracy. The return game has a genuine weapon: Chimere Dike (89 return, 94 speed).

Hidden gems

Offense: Chimere Dike (WR, 74 OVR). Read the ratings page twice: the overall says 74, the speed says 94. Overall is about the whole job; that speed is about one job, and he can already do that one as well as most starters.

Defense: Marcus Harris (CB, 71 OVR) — a 93 speed buried at 71 overall. Speed is the one trait that plays at any overall — it travels to any package, any formation, any Sunday.

Built from EA's Week 7 roster update: the headliners are each side's highest-rated players, trait callouts are their actual top ratings, and league ranks compare all 32 starting units in the same file. A gem is a non-starter (85 OVR or under) carrying at least one elite trait of 92+.
