What this team is

A middle-of-the-league roster with specific, nameable strengths and one problem it cannot hide. The face of it is Zack Baun (LOLB, 93).

Reality check: none of this is currently happening in Philadelphia. Jalen Hurts is out for the season, his replacement is the 66-rated Tanner McKee, and the Eagles have lost five straight to sit at 2-5 after Dallas hung 416 yards and 38 points on them Monday night. The gap here remains the widest in the league.

Offense

DeVonta Smith (WR, 92) is the headliner. 97 catching — hands you never worry about; 95 acceleration — zero to full speed in a blink — the first three steps are already gone. Everything this offense does is built to get him the ball in the situations those numbers describe.

Jalen Hurts (79) at quarterback is serviceable rather than special; the stars around him are asked to make him right. Saquon Barkley (91) would headline most offenses himself — having two of them is how this unit breaks coverage math. Fine print — Jalen Hurts: he is out for the season — a calf clot that progressed to blood clots in both lungs; he is on blood thinners, with a full recovery expected.

Defense

Zack Baun (LOLB, 93) sets the terms. 96 pursuit — runs plays down from behind; 93 tackling — does not miss in the open field. Offenses spend the week accounting for him, and the rest of this defense eats in the space that creates.

And he has company at the top: Quinyon Mitchell (90) also rates 90+, giving this roster 2 defenders at that level.

Special teams

Jake Elliott (80) kicks — 97 leg, 89 accuracy. Braden Mann (79) punts — 93 leg, 85 accuracy. The return game has a genuine weapon: Britain Covey (88 return, 88 speed).

Hidden gems

Offense: Joe Milton (QB, 70 OVR) — a 99 throw power buried at 70 overall. Somebody's quarterback room is always one injury from finding out what that arm is worth.

Defense: Jakorian Bennett (CB, 73 OVR). Read the ratings page twice: the overall says 73, the speed says 95. Speed is the one trait that plays at any overall — it travels to any package, any formation, any Sunday.

Built from EA's Week 7 roster update: the headliners are each side's highest-rated players, trait callouts are their actual top ratings, and league ranks compare all 32 starting units in the same file. A gem is a non-starter (85 OVR or under) carrying at least one elite trait of 92+.
