What this team is
Not a contender's roster, not a doormat's — the story is in the details below. The face of it is Denzel Ward (CB, 94), and after him the defense falls off a cliff — the next-best defender is Jared Verse (86).
Reality check: this roster was assembled to tank, and instead the Browns are 5-2, tied atop the AFC North — Watson threw for 308 yards in the Week 7 win at Tennessee and Judkins ran for two scores. First place, with the game's lowest-rated starting quarterback. Nobody can explain it, including Cleveland.
Offense
Quinshon Judkins (HB, 80) is the headliner. 96 carrying — the ball simply does not come out; 91 acceleration — zero to full speed in a blink — the first three steps are already gone. He is close to the only non-problem this offense has.
A bottom-four offense, where most weeks the most exciting play is a really good punt. The catch: the quarterback. Deshaun Watson (74) is one of the lowest-rated starters in the league, and everything fun on this offense is downstream of that problem. Fine print — Deshaun Watson: he ruptured his Achilles in 2024, re-ruptured it during rehab, and missed all of 2025 before winning Cleveland's job back this August.
Defense
Denzel Ward (CB, 94) sets the terms. 95 man coverage — can travel with a WR1 and live on an island; 94 acceleration — zero to full speed in a blink — the first three steps are already gone. He is the problem the other sideline has to solve first.
It is a one-man headline, though — the next-best defender is Jared Verse (86), and offenses that survive the star find a much more ordinary unit behind him.
Special teams
Andre Szmyt (77) kicks — 95 leg, 86 accuracy. Corey Bojorquez (80) punts — 95 leg, 87 accuracy. Top return man is KC Concepcion Jr (82 return).
Hidden gems
Offense: Isaiah Bond (WR, 69 OVR). Read the ratings page twice: the overall says 69, the speed says 93. Overall is about the whole job; that speed is about one job, and he can already do that one as well as most starters.
Defense: Toriano Pride Jr (CB, 67 OVR) — a 93 speed buried at 67 overall. Speed is the one trait that plays at any overall — it travels to any package, any formation, any Sunday.
Built from EA's Week 7 roster update: the headliners are each side's highest-rated players, trait callouts are their actual top ratings, and league ranks compare all 32 starting units in the same file. A gem is a non-starter (85 OVR or under) carrying at least one elite trait of 92+.
