Cover 6
Quarter-quarter-half combo coverage.
Cover 4 (quarters) to one side, Cover 2 (half) to the other — usually to the field and boundary. Disguises which side is which until the snap.
How each scheme beats it
Air Raid
Read the rotation: flood the quarters side with three routes, attack the Cover 2 side's seam. Motion before the snap reveals which side is which.
West Coast
Smash to the Cover 2 side — the corner route drops behind the flat defender. Quick game to the quarters side; run it vs. the numbers.
Power Run (Gap)
Run away from the rotation strength. Play-action seam on the Cover 2 half; the quarters side is soft vs. inside runs.
Wide Zone
Stretch to the quarters side — softer run support there. Bootleg back to the Cover 2 side and flood it.
Spread Option
Zone read to the quarters side; RPO away from the rotation. The QB run attacks whichever side comes up light.
Vertical
Four verticals: the half-side safety has more ground to cover — attack the boundary seam. Bend deep posts toward the Cover 2 side.
